Los Arcos to Logrono to Najere

Will not be able to publish this until tomorrow since wifi in the Alburgue we are in does not seem to work (as usual). I will go ahead and write it with the hopes the wifi will come back on line.

We left Los Arcos and walked 20 miles to Logrono. Got in about 3 and tried to find the Pension I had booked on Booking.com. Took over 1 1/2 hours to find it and nobody was there. It was located in some strange looking office complex and we rang the bell for over an hour. We finallyl gave up and found an Alburgue to stay in. Had a good dinner and went to bed.

Got out around 8 (after watching the running of the bulls on television) and hiked another 20 miles to the town on Najera. We are now in the Riojas portion of Spain where they are known for their wines. Needless to say we walked the entire day through vast vineyards until to came to the old city of Najera. During the day we came upon Percy and Harry who we left just prior to Pamplona. Although they were a day ahead of us (we stayed an extra day in Pamplona) we caugt up to them since we had done a couple long days. They were walking with a group which included a guy from the Netherlands who started there (about 1400 km) and is walking in those shoes that look like feet....crazy. Najere is the first town where the 1st Alburgue I checked at was full. I did find another one down the road but we were taking the last beds. We walked to dinner after Ben had a nap and saw Harry sitting on a bench. They got in about an hour after we arrived and everything was full. He had said they might open a gym at 10 pm as an overflow but was not sure. Otherwise they were going to sleep outside tonight. What a bitch.

We start again tomorrow and not sure how far we are going to walk. We are hoping to get to Santiago by the 30th which means we are going to have to make up about 3 days from the suggested guidebooks. This means we are going to have to do several more 20 mile days.

  1. Welcome to the hotel California, what a lovely place. Sounds like y'all got a little marching to do o catch up. Can't believe a guy from the Netherlands is walking that far. Jeremy wears those things all of the time on weekends. Keep on trekkin...
