Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado

Left the Hostal at about 8:00 am and had coffee and croissant (the usual Spanich breakfast it seems) and headed off in the drizzling rain. The Hostal we stayed in was called the Hostal la Cathedral since the rooms had a view of the Cathedral we visited yesterday. Went through the the farming villages of Granon, Redecilla del Camino, Castildelgado, Wiloria de Rioja and Villamayor del Rio before hitting the town of Belorado. Not much scenery today other than miles and miles of wheat fields. We did pass a poppy fields which you do not see often. Ben went into the field and cut off a poppy and opened it up. Guess what....poppy seeds! We arrived in Belorado about 2:00 pm and met Harry sitting waiting for the group he has been walking with. We passed the group a couple hours earlier so Harry had to wait awhile before checking into the Alburque. Did our laundry and Ben took a nap. Tomorrow is a 15 mile day to the town of San Juan de Ortega wth an elevation change of about 1,350 feet. I know I don't want to wish for warmer weather but it has been cold since we started (except for 1 day). I am sure I will be wishing for the cold again within the next couple weeks.

  1. Thanks for the blog, Tim and Ben. I really look forward to reading about your daily adventures. Have you seen enough churches to last the rest of your lives? So far, I've seen just one photo of a golf course. Wondering why Tim would vacation in such a golf-barren place. Great stuff! Continued safe travels......Glenn
